Materials Accepted with Conditions

Aerosol Cans

Must be empty and punctured or crushed.

Ammonia Refrigerant Units

Ammonia and sodium chromate must be removed in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Aircraft Material

Must be confirmed to contain no radioactive sources, aluminum/lithium alloys, or chemical residues.

Appliances (Household or Commercial)

Must be free of PCBs, mercury, refrigerant, ammonia, and asbestos.

Asbestos Containing Scrap

All asbestos must be removed in compliance with applicable regulations.

Ballasts

Must be free of and labeled “No PCBs”. Only accepted at Non-Ferrous receiving.

Barrels, Drums, and Containers

Must be completely empty with no residual content, with the entire top removed or cut in half to allow for thorough inspection.

Batteries (Lead Acid ONLY)

Lead-acid batteries (automotive and industrial) are accepted if properly segregated; however, we do not accept “universal waste” batteries, such as NiMH, NiCd, lithium, or Absolyte.

Compressors/Sealed Units

Must be fully drained of oil, with a visible drill hole for verification.

Compressed or Liquified Gas Cylinders

Must be segregated, with valves removed, completely empty and depressurized, and either have a fist-sized opening on the side or be cut in half. Acetylene tanks are NOT accepted.

Dross (Metallic)

Certification and documentation are required to confirm that the dross is non-hazardous and has been managed in accordance with all applicable legal requirements.

Gauges and Measuring Devices

Must be verified as free of radioactive sources.

Lighting Fixtures (Outdoor and Commercial)

Must be free of PCB capacitors, ballasts, and bulbs.

Military and Government Scrap

A certification statement is required, confirming the material is free of explosive, radioactive, and hazardous substances.

Paint Cans

Must be delivered open, empty, and dry.

Refrigerant Containing Scrap

Refrigerant must be properly recovered in compliance with federal or state regulations using EPA-certified recovery equipment. A Refrigerant/CFC recovery certification is required.

Shells and Munitions

Must be segregated from other commodities and fully discharged or otherwise spent.

Tanks (Aboveground and Underground Storage)

Must have a minimum 2-foot hole at both ends or be cut in half, with no residues or odors present.

Transformers or Oil-Filled Circuit Breakers

Only new production or dry transformers are accepted, or transformers that have been drained with less than 1 PPM PCB, accompanied by laboratory test results.

Trash or Non-Metallic Recyclables

Accepted only if present in minimal amounts relative to the scrap load and may be subject to deductions.

White Goods

See “Appliances” for reference.

Wire/Cable

Must be free of asbestos and PCBs.

Important Refrigerant Recovery Notice

Federal law prohibits the intentional venting or release of refrigerants or substitutes from appliances and motor vehicles into the environment.

Anyone found to be intentionally providing false information or releasing refrigerants may incur EPA criminal fines of up to $37,500 per day for each offense.
